From School Nurse: Parents and or Guardians of Unit #50 students, As you may already know, proper hand hygiene is important in decreasing communicable illness. Please encourage your student(s) to wash his/her hands after using the restroom and before eating. Hand sanitizer stations are available for student use, outside the cafeteria entrances. With that being said, I would also like to review the school policy for when students must be excluded from school, as well as when they may return, following illness. Fever -Any student with fever may not return to school until they have been fever free (below 100 degrees Fahrenheit) for 24 hours, without the assistance of Tylenol, Ibuprofen, etc. Vomiting/Diarrhea -Any student exhibiting symptoms of vomiting or diarrhea, with or without fever, must stay home or be sent home from school. The student may return to school 24 hours after symptoms subside. **The only exception to this rule is students who have a medical diagnosis that is not considered contagious. ** Strep Throat -A student with strep throat may return to school after they have been on antibiotic treatment for at least 24 hours and are fever free. If you have any questions regarding the above, or are not sure if your student should attend school, please feel free to contact me. Thank you so much for your help in keeping our students healthy! After reading about The Great Wall of China, Mrs. Chesnut's sixth graders built their own Great Wall out of sugar cubes. All of the wall had to be assembled using chopsticks, instead of their hands. When their wall was finished, students placed a lego man on the walkway to signify they had fortified their region and were ready to protect the people of China!
Mrs. Habing's 6th grade social studies class is currently studying Ancient China. After learning about the Terra-Cotta Army surrounding Emperor Shihuangdi's tomb, they took an interactive field trip to the historical site. The Effingham County Home and Community Education Extension recycles Christmas cards and transforms them into beautiful occasional bookmarks; Christmas included! Mrs. Nice and Mrs. Hotze are excited to allow the students at TGS to choose one of these 600 bookmarks during this holiday season! If you have Christmas cards or any occasional cards that you would like to recycle, please send the front cover of the card to Teutopolis Grade School. We will have a separate "Card Box" in the TGS Recycling Area (located near the office) for these donations. You can also donate new cards (Christmas or any occasion) that the Extension office will then forward to the Veterans' Homes in Illinois. In addition, this group donated school supplies to TGS; notebooks, bookbags, glue, crayons, etc. A big, "THANK YOU" to The Effingham County Home and Community Education Extension for all you do for our community and surrounding communities!
To review the tools in Google Docs, 3rd graders spent the last few weeks typing letters to soldiers to send them some holiday cheer. They practiced paragraph formatting, line alignment, text color, text size, font style, and inserting images. 3rd graders shared their favorite Christmas song and even told a holiday joke. Thank you for your service, brave soldiers!
In Tech class, 2nd Graders have been working hard to write letters to Santa. They became familiar with the keyboard and tools in Google Docs. Their letters will be dropped off at Macy's as part of the Believe campaign. For each letter written to Santa, Macy's donates $1 to the Make a Wish Foundation. As a whole class, $81 will be donated to help make wishes come true! Nice work 2nd graders!
Reminder: School is dismissed at 3:00pm on Thursday, December 21 to begin Christmas break. Happy holidays from all of us in Unit #50.
