From School Nurse: Parents and or Guardians of Unit #50 students, As you may already know, proper hand hygiene is important in decreasing communicable illness. Please encourage your student(s) to wash his/her hands after using the restroom and before eating. Hand sanitizer stations are available for student use, outside the cafeteria entrances. With that being said, I would also like to review the school policy for when students must be excluded from school, as well as when they may return, following illness. Fever -Any student with fever may not return to school until they have been fever free (below 100 degrees Fahrenheit) for 24 hours, without the assistance of Tylenol, Ibuprofen, etc. Vomiting/Diarrhea -Any student exhibiting symptoms of vomiting or diarrhea, with or without fever, must stay home or be sent home from school. The student may return to school 24 hours after symptoms subside. **The only exception to this rule is students who have a medical diagnosis that is not considered contagious. ** Strep Throat -A student with strep throat may return to school after they have been on antibiotic treatment for at least 24 hours and are fever free. If you have any questions regarding the above, or are not sure if your student should attend school, please feel free to contact me. Thank you so much for your help in keeping our students healthy! The world is your canvas." This book is one of the twenty 2018 Monarch books that Mrs. Hotze reads throughout the school year with the kindergarten through 3rd-grade students at TGS. Mrs. Nice hosted a “speed book dating” for the students at TJHS. This is a fun way for students to be exposed to a wide variety of books to spark some interest in new titles. Mrs. Nice played love songs while students rotated to different stations, which hosted four titles. Students chose one book at each station to rate in three categories: First Impression-judging how well they think they would like the book based on its cover and appearance Flirting-rating the book based on the summary Getting to Know You-make a judgement after reading a few pages of the book In the end, each book got a final score and students chose whether or not they would “take the book out”...of the library.

In honor of Veterans Day, our fifth grade students had the local Teutopolis American Legion members and some family members come to speak to the students about their experiences. The fifth grade classes learned about letter writing while addressing letters to troops currently deployed through a program called Operation Gratitude. In addition, Mrs. Meyer's fifth grade students wrote detailed essays about the life of a veteran that they interviewed. The students loved hearing the veterans stories, and sharing their letters with the soldiers.

At TJHS, students take an "Exploratory" class each quarter. For 2nd quarter, one of the "Exploratory" classes is called Christmas Creations. 18 junior high students met with Mrs. Jansen's kindergarten class. During this time, the kindergarten students told the junior high kids all about themselves, their hobbies, and their holiday traditions. This information will be used by the junior high students to create a holiday story with their kindergarten buddy as the main character! As Christmas draws near, the junior high students will once again have the chance to meet up with their buddy to present and read the story to them. What better way to kick off the holiday season than sharing a one-of-a-kind book with a friend!

As of 4-27-17, the State owes local education agencies $1,106,085,191. You read that correctly, $1.1 Billion in non-General State Aid dollars. That represents $541.73 for every student in Illinois. That is well over $500,000 for Unit #50.
The last day to purchase a high school yearbook is April 12! If you are interested in purchasing one for your child, please contact Mrs. Esker at email@example.com or at the high school office at 217-857-3139!
Q. Will the state of Illinois hold on to this money like they did with the lottery? A. These funds are not subject to the budget process in the state of Illinois. The sales tax receipts are processed by the Department of Revenue which keeps 2% of the funds before they are returned to the Regional Office of Education for disbursement to the appropriate school districts. Teutopolis Unit #50 has been getting monthly revenue from the Shelby County Sales Tax for nearly two years and has seen no evidence that money is being kept by the state of Illinois.
Here is a map of the counties in Illinois that have passed the County School Facilities Tax as of November 2016. https://goo.gl/yvF1Ar
How much revenue will be generated from the County School Facilities Tax? It is estimated that about $5.3 million would be generated annually for public school districts in Effingham County. The money follows the students. ESTIMATES: Altamont #10 $ 790,000 Beecher City #20 $ 237,000 Dieterich #30 $ 483,000 Effingham #40 $2,761,000 Teutopolis #50 $1,062,000 North Clay, Jasper County, St. Elmo, and Stew-Stras - $10,000 Total Estimated Revenue = $5,345,000. To raise the same $1,062,000 in Teutopolis Unit #50 with property taxes, our district’s property tax rate would go from $3.70452 to $4.62452 per $100 of assessed value. This means that a house with a fair market value of $240,000 (EAV of $80,000) would see the school district’s portion of the tax bill rise from $2,963.62 to $3,699.62. This is an increase of $736. To generate $736 with the sales tax, a person would have to spend $73,600 on taxable items. Current Rate = 3.70452 New Rate = 4.62452 Increase = .92
