Two more students were chosen for this month's "kindness initiative" at TJHS. Brody Schmidt and Aiden Bloemer went above and beyond to help certain teachers complete various tasks. Both were treated to Subway during lunch with two of their friends. Way to go you two! We are extremely proud of both of you!

As Valentine's Day has come and gone, TJHS hosted "Book Speed Dating" for our students. Students recommended books they have read and enjoyed. Mrs. Wakefield and Mrs. Goeckner pulled these books off our shelves and placed them on various tables in the library. Students rated each date (book) by first impression (cover), by flirting (reading the summary), and by getting to know you (reading the first couple of pages). If the student was interested in a second date (checking out the book), he/she placed his/her name on a post-it note in the book so it could be checked out. Huge thanks to Mrs. Wakefield and Mrs. Goeckner for making this happen for our students!!

TJHS students were surprised today with a Valentine meal from Joe's Pizza and Pasta. All students and staff members enjoyed spaghetti, breadsticks, salad, and fruit. A great surprise for great kids! We hope everyone has a terrific Valentine's Day tomorrow!

Two students were chosen for this month's "kindness initiative." Blake Newlin was a tremendous help to a substitute teacher, and CC Mattox showed kindness towards several students at the school dance and during her PE class. Both were treated to Subway during lunch. Way to go you two! We are extremely proud of both of you!

TJHS students who participated in the Rebecca Caudill program voted on their favorite book today...and enjoyed a donut for their hard work! The Rebecca Caudill Young Readers' Book Award is an annual award given to the author of the book voted most outstanding by children in grades four through eight in participating Illinois schools. The award is named in honor of Rebecca Caudill who lived and wrote in Urbana, Illinois, for nearly 50 years.

Congratulations to Cecilia Donsbach and Eric Weidner on being selected as the "Best Fans" during the junior high girls basketball season! Each was awarded their own personal Wooden Shoe fan. Thanks to all who supported the girls basketball teams this season!

TJHS students loaded the buses today to go cheer on the 7th grade girls basketball team at the state tournament in Auburn. They enjoyed some bowling and laser tag in between games. Great fun with great kids!

Congratulations TJHS 8th grade girls basketball... regional champions!
Way to go Lady Shoes!!

On Saturday, November 18th, four TJHS students will attend Eastern Illinois University for the ILMEA District Festival. They will rehearse with other students from all schools in district five during the day and perform a concert that afternoon. Audrey Runde will perform at 3:00 p.m. with the junior choir in the Grand Ballroom in the MLK Student Union. Taylor Hoene, Jack Hartke, and Cece Passalacqua will perform at 3:30 p.m. at Doudna Concert hall with the junior band. Such a GREAT honor!

Food to Share 2023
TGS and TJHS are collecting food items again this year. We encourage students to bring in non-perishable food items during the month of November. Please check expiration dates. Money donations, instead of food items, will also be accepted.
If any community member would like to donate, please bring items to Teutopolis Junior High. All items will be delivered to Catholic Charities on Wednesday, November 22. Please help us donate to this worthwhile cause.

TJHS PE classes walked to the American Legion Memorial last Friday in remembrance of all of our local veterans. Mike Funneman graciously donated his time to explain how the memorial came about. Thank you Mike, and thanks to all of our veterans!

TJHS students participated in "Book Tasting!" Each year the library gets new books, and this is the perfect way to introduce them to the students. Mrs. Wakefield set the tables with new books and snacks that correlated with the plot of the books. Students were given time to judge the books by their covers, preview their summaries, and "taste test" them by reading a few pages. If students were interested in a book, they put their name in a drawing to be one of the first to be able to check the book out!

This year 4 TJHS students were selected for District 5 ILMEA. Students went through a tough audition process and found out they were selected on Monday. These students will go to EIU in Charleston on November 18th to rehearse that day and perform that night. Congratulations to Taylor Hoene (Clarinet), Jack Hartke (Trombone), Cece Passalacqua (Bass Clarinet), and Audrey Runde (Voice).

Thank you TJHS Student Council and Todd & Karen Smith for making the entrance to the junior high so inviting and beautiful!

All TJHS students participated in Field Day Activities yesterday. This outside event is a great way for 7th and 8th grade students to work together and interact with each other in a fun environment.

A BIG thank you to the high school boys baseball team and Coach Fleener for helping us celebrate "High Five Friday!" It was great to see them in the building!

Bikes, bikes and more bikes! TJHS staff and students had their annual "Bike to School Event" today. Everyone started out at the church parking lot this morning and biked through the back streets of T-Town to the junior high. This event not only promotes unity as a school but also encourages kids to ride their bikes more often as a means to become more healthy and to enjoy fellowship with friends. Thanks to all the staff and students that attended!

Congratulations to Tyson Brooks, Bella Niebrugge and Macy Peterson for placing in the Top 10 during the Little Trojan XC Invitational. Tyson placed 3rd in the boys' race and in the girls' race, Bella placed 3rd and Macy placed 7th!

TJHS students wore black today in honor of Mr. Niemerg's 50th birthday.
He's an oldie but a goodie!!
