April 2 will be an important day for schools in Effingham County. Two issues deserve voter attention.   

First, school boards will be elected. In Unit #50, there are four open seats.  Two incumbents are running along with one other person.  That leaves one open seat.  At the April 23 reorganizational meeting, the school board will vote to advertise for applicants to fill the open seat.  Applications will be accepted, and the current school board will choose the new member.  This seat will be held until the next general election in April of 2021 when someone to finish the remaining two years of the term will be elected. The new school board member may not reside in Teutopolis Township.  Current law does not allow more than three school board members from one township to ensure representation from all parts of the school district. At the conclusion of the April 2 election, Teutopolis Township will be represented by three school board members.
