TEUTOPOLIS HIGH SCHOOL ANNOUNCES POETRY OUT LOUD CONTEST WINNERS

Teutopolis High School announces the winners of a school contest for Poetry Out Loud: National Recitation Contest. The student winners are Tory Tensen, Claire Bushur, and Maria Vahling.  On Jan. 31, 2019, 15 students from THS participated in the Poetry Out Loud school contest in the THS Media Center. These 15 students were the top performers in their classroom competitions. The winner and runner up of the school competition will advance to the REGIONAL Poetry Out Loud contest in Springfield on Feb. 13, with the winner advancing to the state competition. The Illinois champion will advance to the Poetry Out Loud national finals on April 30–May 1, 2019, in Washington, DC, where $50,000 in awards and school stipends will be distributed. were the top performers

The competition, presented in partnership with the ILLINOIS ARTS AGENCY, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Poetry Foundation, is part of a national program that encourages high school students to learn about great poetry— both classic and contemporary—through memorization, performance, and competition. Since 2005, Poetry Out Loud has reached more than 3.6 million students and 55,000 teachers from 14,000 schools nationwide.
