September 15th is International Dot Day, and Mrs. Mellendorf read "The Dot" by Peter Reynolds to her 1st graders. This book taught them to have a growth mindset, to believe in themselves, and to always push themselves to work harder. After reading the book, students were then challenged to use their creative minds and use toothpicks and Dots candies to create many unique structures. They also each received a section of a dot to color/decorate, which would then be joined together with some classmates' dots to make an even larger dot. Happy Dot Day!
