Mrs. Nice hosted a “speed book dating” for the students at TJHS. This is a fun way for students to be exposed to a wide variety of books to spark some interest in new titles. Mrs. Nice played love songs while students rotated to different stations, which hosted four titles. Students chose one book at each station to rate in three categories: First Impression-judging how well they think they would like the book based on its cover and appearance Flirting-rating the book based on the summary Getting to Know You-make a judgement after reading a few pages of the book In the end, each book got a final score and students chose whether or not they would “take the book out”...of the library.

At TJHS, students take an "Exploratory" class each quarter. For 2nd quarter, one of the "Exploratory" classes is called Christmas Creations. 18 junior high students met with Mrs. Jansen's kindergarten class. During this time, the kindergarten students told the junior high kids all about themselves, their hobbies, and their holiday traditions. This information will be used by the junior high students to create a holiday story with their kindergarten buddy as the main character! As Christmas draws near, the junior high students will once again have the chance to meet up with their buddy to present and read the story to them. What better way to kick off the holiday season than sharing a one-of-a-kind book with a friend!
